Bulimia Nervosa

Your health is a top priority and cannot be replaced once taken away.

Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by binge eating, inducing vomit, misusing laxatives, excessive exercise and consuming diet pills to maintain a low body weight.

What Constitutes Bulimia Nervosa?

The most general characteristic of Bulimia Nervosa (BN) is binge eating followed by vomiting. BN is extremely hard to detect because those who suffer can somehow maintain a normal body weight.

When Does Bulimia Occur?

nutritional education80 percent of those who suffer from BN are women and it usually occurs during youth. Unfortunately, the causes of BN are unknown but scientists and psychologists agree that the disorder is psychological. The United States promotes thin women to be more attractive which affects a lot of women who strive to maintain the standard.

Studies show that the presumed causes of BN include psychological, cultural, environmental and genetic; with the most notable causes being low self-esteem, a poor self-image, an inability to cope with life, challenges managing stress, having someone close with an overweight problem, childhood obesity and some type of past physical or sexual abuse.

What Individuals Can Do

If you or someone you know suffers from bulimia, seek help immediately. Psychological issues are easily manageable with therapy and certain medications. Doctors highly recommend family therapy sessions because most times, parents do not know the pressures they are putting on their children. It is important to get everyone involved in order to get to the root of the problem.

Seek help, find treatment centers and alleviate your stress and symptoms with professional guidance. Get your life back on track and start living to your fullest potential.
