In addition, holistic modalities and medication are used to supplement CBT and increase the likelihood of prolonged treatment for individuals. Through the years, all have increased in honed to increase effectiveness, and medications have advanced, decreasing their toxicity.

Holistic Health

Holism is defined by experts as the total sum of all elements of health inside of any given individual. This includes the basics like physical and mental health, and goes as far as including social harmony, spiritual enlightenment, and emotional balance. The main focus of holistic health is achieving a balance between spirit, body, and the mind.

Holistic Rehab TreatmentAn example of the connection between the three could be a person diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease. The effects of this disease will decrease the oxygenation of the tissues. Poor oxygen flow to the brain will impair cognitive performance, negatively affecting decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills. These individuals may see you as standoffish, commonly missing, or rude, putting a strain on your relationships. The are many holistic treatment approaches to substance abuse, include; Acupuncture, Nutritional Therapy, Exercise, Massage Therapy, Spiritual Counseling, Yoga, Meditation, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Tai Chi.

  • Acupuncture – Typically acknowledged as one of the best ways to manage physical discomforts and bodily pains. Through the utilization of needles and pressure points, Acupuncture allows individuals to experience relaxation and be in a tranquil state.
  • Nutritional therapy – This type of therapy focuses on consuming the right proteins to aid the body in cellular repair and tissue regeneration. As another portion of nutrition, vitamin and minerals are also a crucial component to regulate because they aid the chemical, enzymatic, and physiological processes of the body. Focusing on the building blocks of the body hastens repair times, and minimized residual damage from substance abuse.
  • Exercise – This is used to elevate the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Exercising increases oxygen flow, oxygenation of the tissues, and improves the cognitive processes. Exercise also improves emotional health as it releases pleasure endorphins, and increases physical appearance.
  • Massage therapy – This is used to relieve physical and mental fatigue, because it is soothing the body and provides a calming effect. Calming and Soothing effects can be heightened with the use of essential oils and aromatics, delivering a state of complete relaxation.
  • Spiritual counseling – This is used to frequently used to find new meanings and understanding for all the events that have occurred to an individual. Spiritual counselors show individuals how to establish a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
  • Yoga – A form of stretching that helps improve flexibility, strength, and awareness of one’s breath in order to promote spiritual, mental, and physical health.
  • Meditation – A form of focus training, used to gain better control over the mind. Meditation improves concentration and used frequently to help individuals manage mild to moderate pain.
  • Art therapy – A form of expression where people who struggle with words, find a way to express their emotions and feelings through art. Clinicians gain insight into an individual’s thoughts by evaluating the individual’s use of colors, symbols, and shapes. These artistic creation can also be discussed in counseling sessions, sometimes bringing light to hidden issues.
  • Music therapy – Music plays towards the emotion of the individuals. The instruments played and the type of music created become an important insight into the thoughts of the individual.
  • Tai-chi –Tai-chi is often described as doing yoga with fluid movements. It is a combination of regulated breathing and graceful exercises. Tai-chi is also known to be extremely effective at reducing and individuals anxiety and stress.
